Feature Tagging

Feature tags provide a flexible way to classify features for operational workflows. For example, an organisation can use tags such as Aviation and Ground to separate features by the team or perspective that uses them.

Tags are configured by an administrator and can then be viewed, added, or removed in the Portal. A feature can have more than one tag.

Configuring tags

Administrators define the organisation’s master list of tags in the Portal Settings page. Each tag has:

  • a Name, which is displayed to users and used when filtering; and

  • an optional Style, consisting of a fill colour and font colour.

Viewing and editing tags

Tags are shown with the other feature details when a feature is selected. Users with edit permission can edit the feature’s tags in the Portal, iOS, or Android:

  1. Select a feature.

  2. Open the feature details or edit form.

  3. Select or clear one or more tags.

  4. Save the feature.

The available tags come from the organisation’s settings. Removing a tag from a feature does not remove it from the organisation.

Filtering features

Use the tag filter in the Portal or mobile map to show only features matching the selected tags. Tag filters can be combined with feature groups and other map filters. Clear the selected tags to return to the unfiltered map.

Filtering is a view option: it does not change feature data or delete features that are hidden by the filter.

Creating a filtered read-only Map Token

Portal users can create a read-only Map Token that exposes only features matching one or more tags. This is useful for sharing a focused operational view, such as Aviation features, with external recipients.

When creating the token:

  1. Open the map’s Map Properties and select Create Map Token.

  2. Set the token to read-only by leaving Allow Map Editing disabled.

  3. Select one or more tags in the feature filter.

  4. Complete the token details and create the token.

The token recipient can view the filtered map, but cannot edit features or change the tag filter. The token remains subject to its expiry date, access permissions, and any later revocation.

Feature data

Tags are stored on each feature in the tags feature attribute. The attribute contains the selected tag values and is synchronised between the Portal and mobile apps. If no tags are assigned, the attribute is empty.
