Left Sidebar

The left sidebar allows the user to configure settings related to recording points and lines with FireMapper. This sidebar is only visible when the Zoom, Wide or IR camera views are selected. It is not available when the FPV camera view or Map View is selected.

Point Target Source

There are three options available for recording a point in FireMapper, these include Laser Target, DEM Target, and Drone Location.

Point Target

Description

../../_images/laser_target.png
Laser Rangefinder Target
InFlight will use the laser rangefinder on the gimbal to determine the location of the target
in the centre of the camera view. This provides the most accurate way to record a point
in FireMapper compared to DEM target. Dense smoke may cause interference with the laser target.

This option is only available for drones that are equipped with a laser rangefinder (e.g. M30T,
Matrice 4, etc). Some drones such as the Mavic 3 Enterprise, Mini 4 Pro do not have a laser
rangefinder

This method does not require an internet connection as a DEM model is not required and works
offline.

DEM Ground Intercept Target
InFlight will use a digital elevation model (DEM) to estimate the location of the target in
the centre of the camera view. This method uses the angle of the camera and the altitude of the
drone to estimate where the camera is pointing on the ground.

This method requires an internet connection to download the DEM data for the area being flown
and may not be as accurate as using the laser rangefinder, especially in areas with steep
terrain.

The camera needs to be pointing down towards the ground with at least 20 degrees down to
estimate the target location accurately.

Aircraft Location Target
InFlight will record the current location of the drone as the point location in FireMapper.
is useful for recording the location of the drone itself, rather than a target on the camera.

This method does not require an internet connection as a DEM model is not required and works
offline.
