Map

The Map Screen displays map features (such as points, lines, photos and areas) and allows you to change between base maps (such as Google, Open Topo Maps, and others). FireMapper has various toolbars and popup views that automatically appear and disappear depending on whether a map feature is selected.

Navigating the Map Screen

The Map Toolbar appears at the top of the Map Screen. The toolbar is visible in Map Mode, ie. when no features are selected and disappears when a feature is selected on the map.

Back to Map List: closes the map and returns to the Map List. Any GPS recording will stop.

Search: opens the Search screen. You can search for coordinates, addresses and more. See more ›

Camera: opens your device camera or external camera if it is attached See more ›

Open Layers Sidebar: contains Base Maps, Live Feeds, Map Features and the Add Files button. See more ›

Fit to Map Extents: moves the map to fit all map features on your screen.

Re-centre on My Location: this icon will change depending on the source of the location information.

ADS-B Location: an ADS-B receiver.

Bluetooth GPS Location: eg. the Garmin GLO, Bad Elf.

External App Location: a third party application (eg. a GPS simulator app).

Network Location: nearby Wi-Fi networks and cellular towers.

No Location: location unknown (eg. app does not have location permissions).

Mapping & Features

Features including points, lines, areas, labels and photos, can be added to the map if you are (1) sufficiently zoomed in and (2) not in Locked Mode.

Locked Mode

When a Shared Map with features is opened, it will default to Locked Mode. In Locked Mode, no edits can be made.

• To edit the map, tap on the lock icon, then ‘Edit Map’.

  

• To return to Locked Mode, leave the map and reopen it from the Shared Maps list.

  Note

  Minimising the FireMapper app (eg. for location tracking) does not Lock the map. It remains in Mapping Mode to ensure changes are tracked and saved.

Adding to the Map

The Symbology Toolbar contains all the symbology which can be added to the map. The toolbar only appears if (1) no features are selected and (2) you are sufficiently zoomed in, as you cannot edit the map at a statewide/country level. Swipe left and right to scroll through your list of feature types.

Points:

1. Select a point type from the bottom toolbar.

   

2. Tap and hold on the location you want to add your point, or use the pin drop to add the point to your GPS coordinates.

   

Lines:

1. Move the map to the area where you want to draw as you can not move the map while drawing the line.

2. Select a line type from the bottom toolbar.

   

3. Draw a line on the map by dragging your finger across the screen, or by using the record button.

4. Line distance will appear at the top of the map. If you close the shape, the enclosed area will also appear for the line.

   

5. Tap the tick button in the bottom left corner to save, or the cross to cancel.

Areas:

1. Move the map to the area where you want to draw as you can not move the map while drawing the area.

2. Select an area type from the bottom toolbar. You can scroll left to right to access different feature types.

   

3. Drag your finger to trace the perimeter of the area on the map. The area will auto-close when you either cut your drawn perimeter with your finger or when you lift your finger off the screen.

4. The perimeter and area will be displayed at the top of the screen as you draw the area.

5. Tap the tick button in the bottom left corner to save, or the cross to cancel.

Features

After a feature has been added to the map, it can be selected by tapping on it. Select the feature to edit/delete it, view its information and more.

The Feature Toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen, and the Info Bar will appear at the top of the screen.

Info Bar

The Info Bar displays a summary of the selected feature’s details. Tapping it will show the expanded details screen, which allows you to view additional information about the selected feature and also edit fields such as the feature name and feature type.

Note

Ensure you are not in Locked Mode when trying to edit the feature details.
